Her criminal justice experience has led her to develop a deep understanding of the vital importance of developing diverse and inclusive teams – where everyone’s voice is heard, the importance of accountability, how to deliver tough messages to your board/stakeholders, and how to communicate negative news in a way that helps people to make informed decisions. Caroline prosecutes and defends across a wide variety of the most serious and high-profile criminal cases, with significant experience in a number of areas of health and safety law, regulatory work and associated areas such as inquests. She has developed a reputation for prosecuting and defending cases where ‘novel law’ and or sensitive matters are in issue. Caroline has a particular interest in human trafficking, organised crime, firearms drugs and violence offences. As a result of her expertise in modern slavery offences she is frequently instructed by commercial organisations to review supply chain compliance and transparency, both domestically and internationally.
Caroline’s role as a barrister is to essentially sell a concept (for defence or prosecution) and to align her team on the strategic approach, in a very heavily regulated sector.
In March 2024, Caroline was appointed special advisor to the House of Lords’ Modern Slavery Act 2015, Committee, prior to that she sat on the Prime Minister’s Modern Slavery Task Force and one of her key mandates was to advise across the entire government remit (Cabinet, security, intelligence, home office, FCDO etc), communicating complex messages vertically and horizontally while holding people to account.
