How Tesco moved from AI hype to strategic roadmap

Case Study: Tesco AI Silicon Valley Immersion

A Wavelength Bespoke Immersion

A four-day experiential learning journey connecting Tesco’s leadership to global technology and AI pioneers, unlocking strategic insight, tangible opportunities, curating a unified vision for AI’s role in the future of retail.

The Challenge

AI is reshaping the retail and wider business landscape at unprecedented speed. For Tesco’s Executive Committee (ExCo), the challenge is how quickly and effectively it can be embedded into the company’s DNA.

Despite a strong culture of innovation, the ExCo identified four critical priorities it would like to accelerate:

  1. Deepen understanding of AI’s disruptive potential in retail
  2. Identify practical further applications to drive value in core functions of the business:
  3. Align leadership around the shared AI strategy
  4. Forge connections with world-leading innovators who could accelerate Tesco’s journey in this area.

“We wanted to answer the question: ‘how do we become an innovative business where innovation flourishes to the advantage of our customers?’ This trip was about getting the stimulus to start that journey”

– Natasha Adams, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer
