Biography

Rory has an extensive and broad professional background, spanning 12 years in communications and HR leadership positions with Lloyds Banking Group, 2 years as Operating Director and Lead Consultant for boutique international consulting firm The Loop, 6 years in senior and Board leadership positions with UK retailer, John Lewis & Partners (part of the John Lewis Partnership) and, since 2019, as co-founder of New Vantage – a leadership and change advisory and coaching firm.

His Board position at John Lewis & Partners was a unique role, providing counsel, coaching and counterbalance to the Managing Director and fellow Board Directors, whilst upholding the founding principles and culture of the Partnership.  In practice, that meant being a discreet advisor, an executive sounding board, and an independent critical thinker with finely tuned skills of influence and diplomacy.

Beyond his executive experience, Rory is an EMCC accredited coach trained by world-renowned Meyler Campbell, a Non-Executive Director of Newcastle Building Society, a Non-Executive Chair of Ignite Consulting, an Independent Member (NED) of Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Housing Trust.  He is also a Visiting Fellow of Nottingham Business School, a Fellow of the RSA and a founding member of two Engage for Success Task and Action Groups.

A very open and honest speaker, Rory is adept at bringing to life the pivotal moments of his learning, from childhood experiences of discrimination, through adult struggles with mental health to the transition to Board level leadership.
