Biography
Colin commanded Camp BASTION in Central Helmand, Afghanistan; the largest operational British Garrison since 1945, where he was personally responsible for the safety of the base, its personnel and the extremely busy airport. He has since been a senior diplomat and then, after being accused of spying and expelled from Russia in 2018, returned to senior RAF leadership roles as Head of RAF Transformation and then finally as Assistant Chief of the Service in 2020. He retired from the RAF in 2023 and was appointed as a Companion of the Honourable Order of the Bath (CB) for services to National Defence and Security.
He uses his experience of making life-or-death decisions in difficult, ambiguous and pressured situations to bring to life how they relate to the broader challenges facing every organisation. He was personally credited with the delivery of £3 billion of benefits as the Head of RAF Transformation, against significant cultural inertia and he believes that his past leadership experiences prepared him for success in that role.
Colin is a great storyteller and uses his own unique experiences to offer thoughts that inspire audiences to achieve their own full potential as leaders. He talks about the real value of properly inclusive, authentic leadership, especially when times are tough.
